Claire Manwani Pottery
Handmade in Lowestoft

 My work

Picture
All of my pottery is entirely hand made from scratch.  I start with a piece of clay and make it into a pot either by hand or using a potter's wheel.  I don't use moulds.  This means that all my work is unique and each piece can differ slightly from the next.  So even if you buy a set of mugs, they may all look exactly the same at first glance but because each is hand made, there will be subtle differences.

Most of my work is functional in nature: items that have a use around the house or office and are not just decorative, although of course I hope they're decorative too!   Plates, mugs, cheese domes, vases - you name it, I'll make it.  My only limitations are the size of my kiln, so I can't make anything wider than 26cm or taller than 30cm.

I work with Earthenware clay, which is ovenproof.  All items are dishwasher and microwave proof too unless they have a metallic decoration.

My background

I've been potting since 1982 and the different kinds of ceramics I make appeal to varied tastes.
Originally from London and after spending 7 years in the Scottish Highlands, I've been based in Lowestoft, Suffolk since 2009.

Where you can find me

Picture
I travel to arts and crafts events at different venues - see the Calendar of Events page for full details.

Some of my items are available at the Cobholm Miniatures shop, 14 Broad Row, Great Yarmouth.  They also have a selection of work by other local artists and craftspersons.

If you see me out and about, please stop for a browse and a chat - hopefully you'll see something you want to buy but if not, feel free to come back again because I'm making new stock all the time.

If there is anything special you want that you don't see on my stall (or on this site), feel free to ask about having an item made to order.  There's no extra charge for this, but of course there would be a wait of a couple of weeks while the item is being made.

Orders

Orders are mailed in recycled boxes to keep customers' costs down.  However, if you would prefer your order to be posted in a new box, please advise me and for an additional fee this can be arranged.

Personal Tuition

Personal tuition is available on a one-to-one basis.  The fee for this is £35 for a two hour session, plus a small charge for materials used.  Please contact me if you would like more information.
